Why Love Him ?

For gift of life,
for senses to discern
Your daily goodness ;
for soul-companion
fellow-pilgrim wife of mine,
for children all,
place in Your church
and access to Your presence,
for house and home, for ‘daily bread’,
for eyes to see the beauty of Your world ;
Father, You’re so generous ! !

But pause, my soul
lest ever you’d confuse
the gifts with Giver !
So I take to me this anthem,
and by Your grace I’ll bear it all life’s way
Into Your nearer presence :
‘I love Him because He first loved me’ ! ! ! !
