Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. As pilgrims pass through the valley of weeping, they go from strength to strength. Every one of them appears before God in Zion. Ps.84:5.

Weeping Pilgrims

Each teardrop on the pilgrim way
waters a well-trod road
and there’s an ambience palpable
of predecessors who, like me,
have known some grief.

When they’ve passed through
And tears have dried
another milestone’s left behind
and journeying on, signposts
leap from Your word
insisting ‘Zion ahead’.

Oh, God, my Father,
here’s another one-time prodigal
claiming Your promises !
