Idols

How well you knew the dangers, John;
yourself a man,
as Spirit–led you penned
that powered postscript !
You felt, I sense, the power,
the counter-pull that led you
call God’s people from the glitz and glitter
that tugs our fallible hearts
away from the upward path.

Help, Father, I will such gone !
Father, in partnership,
let’s shoo them off the battlefield
that is my heart -
things that are not of You !
