They cast lots and the lot fell on Matthias, so he was numbered with the eleven apostles. Ac.1:22.

Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men… Judas, also named Barsabas and Silas, leading men among the brethren. Ac.15:22, 32.

Disappointed, Barsabas ? Resentful ?
Apostleship within your grasp
and then it’s someone else
who’s ‘numbered with the eleven’ ?

I’m so glad you soldiered on,
became a ‘leading man
among the brethren’
and prophet, too:
Refused to sulk as many might
and lose their usefulness.

O, grace me, Lord,
lest ever ‘second fiddle’,
I’d foolish, throw away
my chance to serve -
loyally !
