The prophets and even the priests did not know how to blush Jer. 8:10-12.

Blushing

Prophets and priests:
Such folk know much,
trained and drilled
in their respective disciplines.
But Jeremiah, at Your word,
must tell these seared-of-conscience ones
they’d lost the power to blush !

That’s solemn.
I’m not their judge;
my business is the spring-cleaned conscience.
Grant me, Lord, that when I’ve gone astray
at Spirit’s prompt I’ll always know
when I should blush.
O, keep me sensitive !
